Montana AG Knudsen Doubles Down, Says TP-Link Routers Are ‘Trojan Horses’ Planted by China
I recently shared a story with you about Attorney General Austin Knudsen announcing he was going after TP-Link over concerns about privacy.
Now, AG Knudsen is doubling down on his lawsuit against TP-Link by calling on the FCC to take action.
AG Knudsen Says TP-Link's Routers Are Chinese Trojan Horses
The Montana Department of Justice says that Attorney General Austin Knudsen has joined a coalition of 21 state attorney generals in "asking the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to scrutinize" TP-Link, a Chinese-founded tech company that makes internet routers and security cameras under the name Tapo.
"TP-Link routers should be considered a Trojan horse planted by the Chinese Communist Party to spy on Americans. I hope the FCC seriously considers TP-Link’s concerning practices and declines to grant the conditional approval they are seeking for the sake of our national security," Attorney General Knudsen said in a statement.

Man, that's a bold statement but... what if he's right? On the other hand, what if he's wrong?
Do You Use TP-Link Products in Great Falls?
While they're headquartered in California, Montana officials refer to reports that 11,000 employees still work in China including their research and development teams.
So, if the claims about them spying on us here in Montana are true... how terrifying is that? Especially if you use their home security systems which are available at stores like Walmart for as low as $25 on some select Tapo models.

Are you using any of these products? I would love to speak with you and get your perspective to share in the form of an article about what us locals here in Great Falls think about this.
