Wounded MHP Trooper Wade Palmer and Family Gifted with New Home
Over 100 well-wishers gathered to honor Palmer and his wife Lindsay, including John Carroll, retired FDNY Battalion Chief, Former Attorney General Tim Fox, MHP Retired Col. Tom Butler, and a host of others at the new Stevensville home.
Butler spoke of Palmer’s service with the Highway Patrol.
“Wade served the people of Montana for eight years with the Montana Highway Patrol,” said Butler. “During those eight years, Wade served with distinction, earning the highest Award Montana Highway Patrol gives; the Medal of Honor, not once, but twice.”
Butler then spoke of that fateful night when Palmer pursued a murder suspect.
“His second Medal of Honor was earned in 2019, when Trooper Palmer located a suspect who, earlier that evening, had shot and killed two citizens and seriously injured another,” he said. “During this encounter, Trooper Palmer was shot multiple times. In both circumstances despite the danger to himself, Trooper Palmer placed himself in harm's way to protect innocent citizens. Wade would tell you he was just doing his job.”
Attorney General Tim Fox Traveled with Palmer to the Hospital in Salt Lake City
Fox was Attorney General at the time Palmer was wounded and traveled with him to Utah.
“Congratulations, Wade, Lindsay, and Sierra on your new home,” began Fox. “It's been a long haul for the Palmer family. I remember those difficult days at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, where we huddled together, we prayed and we welcomed the support of law enforcement officers and their families and first responders and many others from all over the country, it was overwhelming.”
Fox said the outpouring of support from Utah was powerful for the Palmer family.
“The Utah Highway Patrol in particular had guards standing at Wade's door at the hospital for many months, and there were many other generous people in Utah, Montana, and all across America and Canada who showed their love and support for Wade and Lindsay and our law enforcement community here in Montana enjoy.”
