Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Just before 9:00 AM on April 15, 2025, a student at Sentinel High School reported to the on-site School Resource Officer (SRO) that they had witnessed another student in possession of a firearm on school grounds.

According to Missoula Police Department Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, the SRO immediately took steps to locate the individuals involved and requested additional assistance.

"Other School Resource Officers and Patrol Officers from the Missoula Police Department responded quickly to support the investigation and ensure the safety of all students and staff," Bennett said. "Sentinel High School was placed into lockdown as a precautionary measure during the response. Two juvenile males were detained, and a firearm was recovered."

Since then, the lockdown has been lifted.

"The Missoula Police Department is actively coordinating with Missoula County Public Schools (MCPS) as the investigation continues," Bennett said. "Currently, there is no known threat to the public or to other students. We appreciate the quick action of the student who came forward, the cooperation of school staff, and the prompt response by law enforcement."
